3rd & 4th GRADE LEAGUE a. All players must play at least one half (1/2) of the game. b. The quarters will be eight minutes with a running clock. The clock will stop at all dead balls the last minute of each half and for any lengthy substitutions. c. No score will be kept. d. Defense is allowed in the frontcourt only. Once the defensive team obtains possession, the offensive team must fall back over the half court line. e. While the defenders can pick up their man at the half court line, coaches are encouraged to have their players pick up their opponent after the opponent has moved into a true offensive position. f. Man to man defense with no double-teaming is required except in the third quarter where zone defenses will be permitted. g. Foul shooting shall occur on shooting fouls only. h. The games will be officiated by a league representative or by the coaches of the teams playing the game. i. The games will be played on eight (9) foot baskets. j. Any rule not specifically covered above will be covered under P.I.A.A. rules.
(5th - 6th) & (7th - 8th) GRADE LEAGUES a. All players must play at least one half (1/2) of the game. b. The quarters will be eight (8) minutes running clock. The clock will stop at all dead balls the last 2 minutes of each quarter. c. Score will be kept, although there will be no three-point shots. d. Defense is allowed in the frontcourt only. Once the defensive team obtains possession, the offensive team must fall back over the half court line. e. Man to man defense, with no double-teaming, is required except in the third quarter, where zone defenses will be permitted. f. Foul shooting shall occur on shooting fouls only. g. A flagrant foul will be a technical foul resulting in two (2) foul shots and the ball to the fouled team. A technical foul can be called on a player, the coach, or an assistant coach. Technical fouls may also be called on the coach for unruly fans or parents. It is the coach’s responsibility to keep the fans/parents/relatives/etc. under control. h. The games will be officiated by one P.I.A.A. referee who will have complete authority and control of the gym, the players, and all other people in the gym. i. Any rule not specifically covered above will be covered under the P.I.A.A. rules.
C.V.Y.A.A. GIRLS BASKETBALL PARTICIPATION RULES a. Games will start at the scheduled time. Coaches must have their team ready to go at game time. b. All participants shall exhibit good sportsmanship at all times and players and coaches may be assessed technical fouls or removed from the game for failure to exhibit the same. This rule also applies to parents, relatives and fans that will be asked to leave the gym for failure to abide by the same. Fans should encourage the participants and refrain from making any negative comments about or to players, coaches or referees. c. Children are not permitted to roam or play in other areas of the school, including stages or mats. This rule applies to non-participating children and will be enforced against the adult responsible for that child. d. Any damage done to any property or piece of equipment while at the school or on the grounds of the schools while the league is in session is the responsibility of the parent or guardian of the offending person. If damage is done, and the person responsible is not identified, then the league must pay. The league also risks losing the gym when this occurs. e. Only basketball sneakers and tennis shoes are allowed on gym floors. f. No food or drinks are allowed in any of the gyms.
2nd GRADE LITTLE DRIBBLERS LEAGUE a. This will be on Saturday mornings and shall be run in a clinic format. b. Coaches and league representatives will run the clinics with a focus on the fundamental skills of basketball such as dribbling, passing and shooting. The children may be divided into groups and workstations and may play scrimmages for some portions of the Saturday clinics. c. Players are encouraged to watch as many of the other league games as possible to better learn how the game looks, how it is played, and its rules. TRAVEL TEAMS a. The rules for the travel teams will be the rules established by the Lancaster-Lebanon Girls Travel League (www.girlstravelhoops.com). b. In addition to those rules, the player, their parents, their relatives and their fans must strictly adhere to the rules of our league regarding sportsmanship. Failure to abide by these rules will result in the league taking corrective action, which could include players being suspended from games and fans and relatives not being permitted to attend games.
